Debt Free! with HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

We're Debt Free!

Those of you who have been following the Summer Stash Busting Challenge from the very beginning might remember that my big personal motivation for this project centered on my family's financial goals. We took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University last fall and began our Baby Step 2 (getting rid of consumer debt-- so everything but our mortgage) in January. It has been nearly 7 months, and we paid off almost $16K of credit card debt!

Only 2 things really capture my emotions right now:
- PRAISE THE LORD
- and THANK YOU to all of you who are so supportive of String & Story!!

Michelle of MeeshQuilts

Social Butterfly

It really was a very social week! My mama was out of town, so I made lots of plans to keep us nice and busy! The highlight of our week was going to Zoo Atlanta with Michelle (and Sawyer!) from MeeshQuilts. Meesh's gentle yet passionate spirit and joyful heart make her one of my favorite people to be around.

Red Hen Stitch Shop and The Sewing Doc in Marietta GA
Chickfila with my babies - HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

The bubs and I spent Friday heading out to Marietta to pick up one of my sewing machines from the amazing Andi at Red Hen Stitch Shop / The Sewing Doc. Red Hen was the first quilt shop I ever stepped foot in, and Andi has been a friend ever since. Jem, Ian, and I enjoyed visiting at the shop, then playing at a nearby park and getting ice cream at Chick Fil A on the way home.

Perfect Fit Quilt Pattern by HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

Perfect Fit Quilt

It's been a year since my first pattern, Perfect Fit, was published, and I FINALLY quilted by throw size top! (and my mini size, but I don't have photos of that yet) I'm more in love with this quilt than ever, and I can wait to see more of them "in the wild!"

Mona Bakeshop Choose Your Own Adventure QAL- Pieced by HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

Moda Bakeshop QAL / Scrappy Quilts / Color Theory

This round of the Moda Bakeshop QAL was a doozy, but SO worth it! On Thursday, we talked all about How to Make Any Quilt Scrappy, and I announced the release of my new on-demand class Intro to Color Theory. If you want to know how to make eye-catching color combos and choose fabrics that really ZING, then this class is for you!

Lanterns of Hope in Progress by HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

Lanterns of Hope QAL

During Social Hour in the Quilting Rockstars Facebook Group on Friday night, we pieced the final blocks of Lanterns of Hope! We also talked about creating the setting triangles for this on point layout. The pattern is written for additional blocks that will then be trimmed down. I highly recommend starching the setting blocks well, hemming the quilt (hem carefully inside what will be the final hem allowance of the quilt) before trimming, and trimming a little big for now-- you can trim down the rest of the way after the quilt is quilted and thus more stable. The reason for all of this is that trimming the setting blocks will create bias edges on your blocks, and we don't want your quilt top to get all stretched out!

North Star Quilt

I recently became the delighted driver of a new-to-me Camry, and I am buying it from my Dad for a queen sized North Star Quilt and two shams. I made the first block this week! This is also the block I use in Intro to Free Motion Quilting. In fact, the Quilting Rockstars will be doing Intro to FMQ together this weekend. Come join us!
