Social Hour: June 30, 2018

This week I started two quilt a longs, finally chose a fmq motif, and finished the center of my leaders and enders project!

Good morning!

Welcome to a new little blog segment! We're 3 weeks into the Summer Stash Busting Challenge, and I think it's time for me to have some accountability. I'm talking a great talk about stash busting, and y'all are KICKING BUTT at it, as evidenced in the Quilting Rockstars Facebook Group. I want to make sure that I am walking the walk, though, so I'm going to update y'all each Saturday about where I'm at with my WIPs.

First, if you are part of the Quilting Rockstars Facebook Group and have not watched last night's Summer Social Hour video, go check it out! I finished my QAL blocks for the week and demonstrated just how quick and scrappy Lanterns of Hope can be. I hope you'll join the group if you haven't already and quilt along with us! It's going to be a fun July plowing through this bold pattern, and then a fun August quilting it together! Don't be shy about sharing your work on social media, either-- I love seeing pictures in the group, but you can also tag me @stringandstory on Instagram and use #lanternsofhopeqal .

I also started the Camp Oda May Choose Your Own Adventure QAL and Splendid Sampler II. The bad news is that I think SSII is going to have to wait. The blocks are amazing, but they use techniques that are outside of my wheelhouse. I definitely want to learn them, but my focus right now is on stash busting, so I will print and save the patterns to return to later. The awesome news is that I'm SO PUMPED about Camp Oda May! My girl Kristin is one of the "Camp Counselors" (designers), and I think it will be a perfect way to use a pile of fat quarters from my stash this summer.

In other news, I finally decided that I'm going to do big, all over square spirals on my Perfect Fit Quilt that has been sitting for (gasp) a YEAR, and I'm hoping to get it loaded on the longarm this weekend. Mine is black, white, and gray, so I'll use my go-to thread, Aurifil 2600. I also got the center part of my Happy Scrappy leaders and enders project done. It will probably sit to one side for a bit while I decide what I want to do for borders to get it up to throw size. Finally, I got all but the borders done on the Suncake Quilt-Rug, and I'm looooving how it is looking in our library!

I didn't make any progress on my Wonderland Dart quilt or my second version of Dogwood Blossoms this week. Hopefully in the week ahead!

I'll see you back here on Monday to talk about pieced backs, and then again on Thursday for string blocks! In the meanwhile, I'll see you in the Quilting Rockstars Facebook Group with all the heart eyes for your Lanterns of Hope Blocks!

Happy Quilting!
