I can't begin to tell you how often I'm asked, "How did you learn to free motion quilt so well??" Fortunately, the answer is simple: Practice. Lots and lots of practice. I practiced some on little, scrappy quilt sandwiches, but, mostly, I practiced on real quilts-- quilts for my home and family, quilts for charity, quilts for friends. The other question that comes up a lot is, "How do I know what to quilt where?" Looking at a whole quilt top and trying to decide where on earth to begin can be truly overwhelming.
In Anxious to Adventurous: 10 Weeks to Fabulous Free Motion Quilting, I describe how to make each motif, along with a picture, but I also make suggestions about where in a quilt a motif might be useful. The first 7 chapters of my handy ebook cover 23 free motion quilting motifs. The final chapters challenge you to put all that practice to work with ideas for a practice charity quilt, a whole cloth quilt, and graffiti quilting. With some diligence and patience, you will be quilting with confidence before you know it!
