I'm so excited to bring you this new block pattern! And I plan for it to be one of many!
Let's start at the end: the quilting. I thought about coming up with something all kinds of crazy for quilting this block. But then I thought about how much the piecing and fabric delights me, and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to show how a couple simple motifs can create a beautiful effect.
You'll notice that I actually auditioned two designs for the gray background-- pebbles and a meander. I chose the meander because I liked how it filled the space and because it's easier to do. Again, my goal for this quilting plan is to let the piecing and fabric shine. If you made this block with solids, you might choose something more complicated to show off your stitches instead.
Whether you're making a different quilting plan for this block or making a plan for another quilt all together, I wrote a blog post on how I tackle the planning process that I think you'll enjoy. Check it out!
Here you go-- the North Star Quilt! This pattern is inspired by my dad-- whose wisdom and security is the north star of our family. We all have a guiding light like that in our lives, and this block would make a beautiful quilt for your star as well. Enjoy!
The pattern includes step-by-step cutting and piecing instructions for the blocks, a throw quilt layout (shown above), and a coloring sheet so you can play with your own palette. Plus, there's a link in the pattern back to this blog in case you decide to quilt switchbacks, meanders, and spiral squares on your quilt, too!
