I have a little free motion quilting tutorial for you today PLUS a free pattern! Woohoo!
Today we are quilting double loop ribbon candy. I've recently fallen in love with this design, and I'm quilting it on everything! Really, it's very simple, but it has such a look of something extra to it. Double loop ribbon candy is perfect for sashing, borders, within graffiti quilting and more. Have fun!
To review, you quilt Double Loop Ribbon Candy by quilting a regular Ribbon Candy motif, then retracing the center adding paisleys inside the loops as you go. The trickiest part is the retracing, but I'm using high-contrast thread on my Pneuma block so every little wobble shows. Here's a video where I used matching thread:
I paired the Double Loop Ribbon Candy with several continuous curve motifs, and some free handed angles to quilt the entire block and create a variety of texture.
The quilt block I'm practicing Double Loop Ribbon Candy on is the Pneuma Quilt. Pneuma (“Noo-ma”) is Greek for breath or soul, and everything about this block represents new life being breathed into us—be it spiritually, circumstantially, or seasonally. This is a quilt of hope, anticipation, and joy. Additionally, it is the FREE PATTERN I have for you today!
The pattern includes step-by-step cutting and piecing instructions for the blocks, a throw quilt layout (shown above), and a coloring sheet so you can play with your own palette. Plus, there's a link in the pattern back to this blog in case you decide to quilt Double Loop Ribbon Candy on your quilt, too! Just enter your email below, and I'll send a PDF straight to your inbox.
