Good morning, dear ones!
It's a tired morning here-- Ian is on some steroids for a couple of days to kick a cough he's had for two weeks, and they have him buzzed up and not sleeping. We're all exhausted!
Anyway, let's talk quilts and distract me! ha! If you're one of the 81 people (at present count) who have watched last night's Facebook Live video, then you are ahead of the game. I'm not going to type everything out here, so be sure to watch the video if you haven't. September is the month to GO GOLD for Childhood Cancer Awareness, so it seemed fitting to begin bringing forth this idea before the month ends.
A quick summary: I want to make a large series of art quilts that will become a fundraiser for CURE Childhood Cancer. I would love to work in partnership with Smiley for Kylie (Kylie was one of my students) on this project because Kylie said it best: "Cancer should die and not the kids." I would also like there to be an element of quilters making quilts for kids with cancer and families battling cancer having an opportunity to learn to quilt, and thus be part of the quilting community. All of this is just in my head right now, but I hope it will begin to take shape in the real world before too long.
A few facts: (from Truth365, who I hope also gets on board with this)
- Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease in children
- About 16,000 children are diagnosed each year
- Each time a child dies from cancer, it's an approximate 71 years of life lost
- And yet only 4% of research funds at the National Cancer Institute go toward finding better treatments and cures for childhood cancer.
Right now, I want to hear from you! I want to hear your stories, and if you want to hear more as this thing grows (hopefully), please let me know! You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment here.
And, as always, I'll see you on Instagram!
Happy Hump Day!
