String & Story Quilt with Confidence Bootcamp

Finish that quilt top this weekend.

Saturday, Sept 12 at 7PM ET · Live with HollyAnne

You know the one. The top you love, folded in a bag, waiting — because "quilt as desired" is the least helpful instruction in the entire craft, and nobody ever explained what to actually do.

In two hours together, we're fixing that. Machine setup, tension, and your first core motifs, taught step by step, so you leave with a plan instead of a knot in your stomach.

Can't make it live? Every ticket includes a 30-day replay.

You don't have a talent problem. You have a starting-point problem.

This is what happens when you try to learn a physical skill from random tips, in a random order, from people who never agree with each other:

You watch a free motion quilting video, and it looks doable.

You watch another one, and that teacher does it differently.

By the third video, you’re skeptical again, but you buy a foot you're not sure how to attach anyway. Then, you practice on a sandwich once, decide your stitches look wobbly, and put the whole thing away.

Six months later, the pile of flimsies is taller, and you're no closer to quilting your quilts yourself.

If we just keep handing kids paper and a pencil, they aren’t going to figure out letters, words, and sentences. They need structured practice.

And free motion quilting is a lot like handwriting. It's a learnable, repeatable, fine motor skill. There's a finite number of shapes, and they combine into motifs, and motifs combine into a quilting plan. Nobody is born knowing it, and nobody needs to be an artist to do it.

You just need someone to show you the order.

Start with two hours, live, at your machine.

This is a working session, not a webinar you watch with your hands in your lap. Tune in from your machine, with your practice sandwich and your questions.

What We’re Doing

  • Hour 1: Get your machine to behave

Setup, feed dogs, feet, and the thing that stops more quilters than anything else: tension. We'll cover how to read what your stitches are telling you and how to adjust without, uh, tension. Once your machine is doing its job, everything downstream gets easier.

  • Hour 2: Stitch your first core motifs

The foundational free motion and ruler quilting shapes, taught step by step. Not fifty motifs you'll never remember — the handful that mean you can actually finish a quilt this weekend. You'll stitch along with me.

  • PLUS: The parts nobody teaches

Posture, how to move the quilt, how to know where to look, and how to practice so you actually improve instead of just logging hours. This is the stuff that separates "I tried it once" from "I finished it."

Who It’s For

This is for you if...

  • You have quilt tops waiting, and you'd rather finish them than keep paying someone else to.
  • You've watched a pile of tutorials and still don't know where to begin.
  • You're nervous about your actual quilt, and you'd like that to stop.
  • You quilt on a domestic machine, a sit-down, or a longarm — all three work here.
  • You want the steps in order instead of collecting more tips.

This is NOT for you if...

  • You're looking for one quick trick rather than a process.
  • You want to watch passively (you'll get so much more out of this with your machine on).
  • You already have a quilting plan you're confident in and are working through it happily — in which case, Huzzah! Go finish it.

What You’ll Need

Come ready to stitch:

A clean, threaded sewing machine (domestic, sit-down, or longarm)

A free motion foot or a ruler foot — either one is fine

One practice sandwich (two squares of fabric with batting between, roughly fat quarter sized)

Paper and pen for your notes

The Workbook (we'll email this after registration)

That's it!

No special machine, no fancy thread, and no longarm required.

I'm HollyAnne

It's my job to guide you to quilt with confidence.

I know exactly what it feels like to look at a quilt top you love and have no idea how to do it justice.

I started quilting as a young mom struggling with isolation and postpartum depression, and I've come to believe that quilting gives us a road back to ourselves, our creativity, and our community. I've taught thousands of quilters to finish their own quilts — in person, online, on domestics and on longarms — and I have never once met one who couldn't learn this.

FEATURED IN:

Quilters who thought this wasn't for them:

Casey M.

A small sewing machine:

“I went from being completely intimidated by free motion quilting to feeling comfortable enough to quilt my own quilts! I have an amazing toolbox of free motion motifs to use in the future and I can't wait to finish even more quilts myself."

Casey M.

Francie Jo Sulgrove

No artistic ability:

“Before I started I could not make a curved line at all! Now I love making curvy motifs! The support and encouragement from HollyAnne and other Rockstars is so helpful! Worth every penny!"

Francie Jo Sulgrove

Carolyn B.

Lots of unfinished quilts:

“Best money I ever spent. I continue practicing every day, and I’ve quilted 52 projects since 2019, from table runners to queen size quilts. HollyAnne is an amazing teacher.”

Carolyn B.

FAQ

Your quilt top has waited long enough.

I'm not going to tell you this is your last chance at anything, because it isn't.

But I will tell you this:

The quilt in that closet isn't getting finished by more research.

Action creates confidence, and confidence is what finishes quilts.

Two hours. One evening. Come stitch with me.
