Whether you’ve played around with the basics of quilting with rulers to stitch in the ditch and want to grow your skills, or you always admired but never attempted quilting with rulers, Ruler Quilting Academy is here to teach you the basics of working with rulers, as well as a whole toolbox full of designs for your blocks, sashings, and borders to make your quilt shine!

What exactly is included in Ruler Quilting Academy?
Lifetime access to six units of video lessons teaching you all the skills you need for successful ruler quilting from start to finish, including lessons about the supplies you need to quilt with rulers, how to handle your ruler, and a whole bunch of block, sashing, and border motifs.
Additionally, Ruler Quilting Academy includes the course workbook, the private course community so you can connect to your fellow Rockstars, and live Q&A sessions with me.
When will the videos be available?
We will release the welcome/orientation videos right away so that you know what to expect, and so your supplies can go on your holiday wish list. The course workbook and Units 1-6 will begin releasing within 2 weeks of enrollment closing.
If I don’t sign up for the course now, when is the next chance to enroll?
The next cohort of Ruler Quilting Academy will be open to everyone in March 2024.
If I haven't finished Free Motion Quilting Academy, can I / should I still sign up for the Ruler Quilting Academy Course?
You absolutely can, and if you feel confident about working through two courses at once and you are interested in quilting with rulers, then I think you absolutely should!
If you’re just barely working on FMQA though, and are concerned about “shiny object syndrome,” just know that RQA will come around again. As far as the skill sets, ruler quilting and FMQ pair wonderfully together, and if you’re passionate about finishing your own quilts, especially if you like custom quilting, then you’ll love this course!
How will I access the Ruler Quilting Academy Course?
Like FMQ Academy, we will utilize Kajabi as our classroom portal. Course community will also be hosted inside Kajabi. You will have lifetime access to the course after enrollment, including free updates when we professionally film it later.
What time of day will the videos happen?
Ruler Quilting Academy videos are pre-recorded and will be released at approximately 10am EST on the scheduled day. Q&A sessions will be hosted the first and third Wednesday of each month at 2pm ET.
Do I need a particular machine?
This course is filmed on my BERNINA 590 and designed for folks working on domestic/ home sewing machines and sit down longarms/ midarms. If you are on a longarm on a frame, there will be some adaptation involved to move the machine instead of the quilt (similar to the adaptations if you took FMQA on a longarm). I’m working on a bonus unit all about quilting with rulers on your longarm!
How is this different from Free Motion Quilting?
Similarly to FMQA, this course focuses on motifs for quilting. This time, however, they are all much more geometric and all of them are quilted with rulers. I highly recommend taking both courses.
Will you teach me how to do computerized designs or pantographs?
No— this class focuses on hand-guided quilting using rulers.
Am I going to need a frillion rulers?
Nope! Our class kit will include four rulers (and an optional circle pack), or if you have previously purchased Natalia Bonner’s 4-n-1 ruler, you’ll be able to complete most of the course with just that one. (Full disclosure: I’ve chosen Amanda Murphy rulers for the course instead because they are easier to find, not because I’ve changed my mind about really liking Natalia’s ruler. It’s important to me to offer a kit as well as a brand recommendation your local shop is likely to have/ be able to get).
