All lecture include a trunk show of actual quilts; some lectures also include slides.
How to Make Any Quilt Scrappy (and love it!) - Lecture includes a selection of scrappy quilts discussing how I choose colors and fabrics to make a beautiful quilt (and how to avoid the dreaded “muddy” quilt).
The Basics of Color Theory - Take a walk with me back to art class and the color wheel. We’ll talk about the relationships colors on the wheel have with each other, how that translates to fabric, and how to choose fabrics for your quilt. Lecture includes a trunk show.
Aurifilosophy - Official Aurifil education lecture which includes both a trunk show and slide deck. Lecture will include thread basics, including information on weight and ply, spool positioning, needle recommendations, and tension settings. I’ll offer helpful tips and tricks, share projects and photos aimed to inspire and expand your use of Aurifil threads, and will gift each program attendee with a bag of exclusive Aurifil swag!
Intro to Free Motion Quilting (3 hours) - Learn how to set up your machine, adjust your tension for free motion quilting, and learn four foundational motifs: meander, loopy meander, swirls, and switchbacks.
Beginner Free Motion Quilting (6 hours) - Build upon the 4 motifs from Intro by adding an additional 6 motifs for a foundational “tool box” of ten motifs. Some experience with free motion quilting (even a simple meander) recommended.
How to Make a Quilting Plan (6 hours) - But what the heck to I quilt where?? Take a look with me at different quilting shapes and what motifs quilt well within them. Then, practice putting it all together by drawing a quilting plan for one of your own tops.
Intro to Color Theory (3 hours) - Using watercolors and scraps, take a practical look at how colors are related and how they interact within a quilt. Class includes discussion of different types of quilts (traditional/ modern, scrappy/ not, 2 color, 3 color, etc. and practice making color palettes for quilts
