SewTites SewMagnetic 11” Rotating Cutting Mat & SewMagnetic Ruler Product Review
SewTites is a woman-owned company that specializes in magnetic products to make sewing easier, more precise, and a little less… prickly! (I know I’m not the only one who has stabbed myself more times than I can count with my straight pins!). While quilters worldwide rave about all their products, I was recently gifted the SewTites SewMagnettic 11” Rotating Cutting Mat & SewMagnetic cutting ruler, and WOW I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

I’ve been crisscrossing paths with the lovely ladies at SewTites for YEARS as we have attended shows and events. I’ve always been impressed with their products, but never felt like I could fully utilize them because I really like pins… Then, last year at H+H Americas I saw their magnetic cutting system for the first time. I immediately loved it for anyone who needs a little extra help keeping their ruler steady, but it still wasn’t a product I felt like I needed. Then, at H+H Americas 2025, I heard a friend raving about the SewTites Magnetic Rotating Cutting Mat. I was all ears!
Over the last year, I’ve made countless half square triangles and flying geese, and every single time I’ve thought, “Dang, I really should buy one of those rotating mats.” But y’all know– I’m resistant to extra gadgets. But my friend raved about how smoothly the SewTites mat swiveled, and even I knew that being able to use magnets to hold my ruler in place while trimming could be a game changer. I beelined for the SewTites booth.
One little spin of this mat and I was hooked. The SewMagnetic 11” Rotating Cutting Mat is large enough for trimming quilt units like half square triangles, flying geese, etc, but small enough that you can easily rotate it with just a finger. For the most stability, pair it with a SewMagnetic ruler or use SewMagnetic booster to magnetize other cutting rulers into place. This eliminates the concern of slipping while cutting or rotating. I couldn’t believe how much easier it made all my trimming for my Star Island quilt!

SewMagnetic 6.5 x 6.5 in Cutting Ruler

The 6.5" x 6.5" Sew Magnetic Ruler is an acrylic ruler with 4 embedded magnets to work with the metal in the Sew Magnetic mat to keep your ruler in place while you cut.
The ruler features turquoise and black imprint with the 1/2" numbers in turquoise boxes and the 1" numbers in black boxes – and there are ⅛” and ¼” markings, as well as 30°, 45°, and 60° guides on it.
It is designed so you can use it right-side-up for whole-inch cuts or flip it 180° for work needing half-inch cuts.
The magnets in the ruler are strong enough that your project doesn't slip, and light enough that the ruler also easily shifts where you want it to.
With the Sew Magnetic Cutting System, you don’t have to push down very hard to hold everything in place – so it's a more ergonomic and adaptive way to cut than ever!

The Review
So what are the pros and cons of the SewTites SewMagnetic cutting system?
Pros:
Improves ergonomics because it is easier to keep your body square and trimming away from you rather than contorting into odd positions
Keeps the ruler significantly more stable – especially for finicky tasks like trimming and fussy cutting– for more accurate results
Also keeps the ruler stable for folks with mobility or hand-strength limitations
Photogenic (we all love a pretty accessory)
Cons:
It is an investment (about $265 USD at the time of this writing for the mat + ruler + boosters)
There’s not (yet) a rotating mat big enough for trimming blocks (larger than 9-10”) rather than units
The Verdict
I love it! If you make blocks with units that need to be trimmed, the SewMagnetic cutting system is a game changer. The time and frustration I save significantly offset the investment of the system. Plus, pairing the mat and boosters with favorite rulers like BlocLoc is a total game changer. If you hate trimming (It me) or generally have a hard time keeping your ruler steady for cutting and trimming (Did I mention they have big SewMagnetic mats and rulers, too??), then you need to check out the SewTites SewMagnetic System!
