Perfect Fit is just the right quilt for that hard-to-quilt-for guy in your life or anyone who loves a bold graphic look. Plus, you can customize this quilt to match a room, show off team spirit, or feature favorite colors. But how do you quilt it?? Let’s take a look!

Pro tip: All of my patterns include a coloring sheet— that’s great for trying out quilting ideas, too!

All Over Design

If you want to let the “optical illusion” of this quilt shine, then a simple, all over quilting motif is the way to go. Geometric options include straight lines, a grid, or square spirals, but you could get fancy with swirls or even a feather meander if you wanted an interesting contrast between the piecing and the quilting without getting too complicated.

Semi Custom Design

Because this quilt doesn’t have borders or clear blocks, if you want to go “semi custom,” I’d recommend choosing a different motif for each color of the piecing. Really play around with this and get some fun contrast going— maybe straight lines in one, spiral chains in the next, and a feather in the last. Or do three different shape chains (squares, swirls, and triangles). Or three border motifs (ribbon candy, wishbones, and switchbacks). This is a great time to practice and create awesome texture on your quilt!

Fully Custom Design

Ready to get fancy? Why not treat the piecing on this quilt as the “background” for a super cool quilting plan that looks more like a whole cloth plan than anything else. Maybe play with the recipients initials or something more abstract.

Don’t Forget

I hinted at this at the top, but whichever plan appeals to you, don’t forget to make use of the coloring page inside the Perfect Fit Pattern to draw out your quilting plan before you get started. This drawing becomes like a “road map” to follow so you can focus on the quilting time when you get there. (For more tips about quilting plans, click here). And, of course, Rockstar, don’t forget to have fun planning and executing your quilting!
