Star Island Quilt-A-Long

Star Island features a traditional-style block made oversized for a more bold, modern feel. This pattern is a perfect opportunity to practice a variety of triangle units to create two striking shapes: an 8-pointed lantern and an 8-pointed star. These two shapes combined are reminiscent of a compass and serve as a reminder that our creative practice can be a beautiful way to find our sense of direction, even when life feels busy or overwhelming.

Whether you’re a new quilter wanting to learn how to make half square triangles, quarter square triangles, tri-recs, and flying geese for the first time, or an experienced quilter looking forward to practicing your piecing and connecting with the Quilting Rockstars community, this quilt-a-long is for you!

Eight points around the central star are reminiscent of a lantern, fusing both natural and man-made forms of light. This represents the intersection of the natural and developed worlds that we all experience, but that comes to a special intersection on an island where even the most sophisticated life is impacted by the tides and moods of the sea.

Supplies & Kits

During the quilt-a-long, I shared tips and tricks for choosing colors and fabrics for Star Island. But I know that some of our shop samples are Rockstar faves, so we also put together kits! 🎉

Each kit will make the Throw Sized top and includes 2 yards each of three fabrics (6 yards total). The pattern, backing, and binding are sold separately.
